A few Newspaper Clippings from the Burlington Hawk Eye ...
|

In 1992, I had a wonderful group of Toddlers for my Storytime. The Hawk Eye Newspaper wrote a feature article and took a picture of our
Storytime in December of that year.
When we moved to our new Library building in 2006, I came across this article from 1992. I realized I still knew every one of the children in
the picture with the exception of one child who had moved out of town. But, they were now sophomores and juniors in high school. I was so
thrilled that they continued to be solid library users, I contacted the Hawk Eye Newspaper and asked them to write a "then" and "now" article
about this group of kids. They agreed to do it if I could line up the teenagers. It was a bit challenging, but with the promise of FREE pizza,
chips, and soda pop, I was able to gather several of them together at the Library for a grand Storytime Reunion! (They even worked it in
around their football and band practices!) We discussed our favorite picture books, talked about what a new library building would mean to
them, and reminisced about old times. Some of them remembered many things about storytime and some of them didn't, but they all
expressed their love for their library! It was fun!
We visit the schools every May to promote our Summer Reading Program!

One of my terrificToddlers and her magnificent mother added beauty to our local Newspaper with a full-page picture of them enjoying an evening Storytime.

Wearing one of my many other hats! I enjoy many hobbies. One of them is spending time with my darling mother playing accordion duets! Are we good? Um! We like to play for senior citizens (they have the option of turning down their hearing aids if we squeak).

COLORING BOOK STORY FOR THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION
|
This past summer I was asked by our local Alzheimer's Association representative to write a story for their Brain Health and Awareness
Campaign. I was happy to assist the Alzheimer's Association with their efforts. Although I have not been personally affected by this
awful disease, I have many friends who have watched loved ones suffer its mind-robbing effects. My co-worker, the talented artist,
Samantha Helmick, agreed to illustrate the story and thus was born a beautiful coloring book with an inspiring message for children.
The printing of 4,000 copies of Your A-"maze"-ing Brain was donated by Hy-Vee, Inc. Shown is a sample of some pages included in
the 24-page book. The books are available for free at Kathy's Pumpkin Patch, home to a challenging 10 acre "brain" corn maze.
